"Dinner is better when we eat together"

5th May 2016

Indeed that quotes perfectly described our situation on 5th May 2016. It was the day planned by the members of GENIE to strengthen our bond with the people with disability(PWD) students in 7th residential college by inviting them to have a dinner with us at Bilik Seri Jati. There are total of 10 of PWD students joining us for that night.

On that night, it’s considered as our second event with them (the first official event was the Walk-a-thon Walk-A-Hope). The focus of this dinner is to get a much more exposure and knowledge regarding their lives as PWD individually. Once the guests have gathered, our GENIE members helped them to distribute their foods and drinks.

Genie members helped out with foods and drinks distribution.

Bon appetite J (The food was AMAZING)

We made conversations with them, asking them ‘how’s the food’, ‘Does the food suits your taste’. Well, their answers were beyond our expectation, because it turns out the menu that we were having was actually their every Thursday of the week menu. I was a bit dumbfounded because it’s the first time I ate this meals during my stays in the 7th college. But one of them replied “Yes, we ate this every Thursday, but the foods today taste better than before maybe because we are in one table” :')

One of our lovely member bought a box of Ice Cream

Done for the main course, we move to desert next which was Ice Cream. While eating, the members sat with their chosen PWD’s friend and share some short conversations regarding their life and vice-versa.

During our sharing session, Zaki one of the PWD’s students and one of the most talented people I have ever known played keyboard. He played quite a number of songs, one of it is ‘My Heart Will Go On’ by Celine Dion.. I was truly impressed because he played the notes by ears. He is musically talented and also a genius. We can just hum to any songs we want and he can play the right notes at that particular time perfectly well.

Done with our short sharing session, we moved on to do some cleaning and not forgetting to send back all the stuffs back to its owner which is at residential college’s cafe.

Sending back all the stuffs :)

Wrapping it up with a group picture.

...and another picture of everyone (cause he wants to be in the picture too) XD
